US President Donald Trump has said that European countries should provide Ukraine with its main security guarantees while also emphasizing Washington’s role in economic recovery. He said those words at a meeting of his cabinet on Wednesday, February 26.
According to Trump, he is not going to give Ukraine “security guarantees that go beyond something significant.”
“We’re going to ask Europe to do that because we’re talking about Europe, which is their closest neighbor. But we will do our best to make sure that everything goes well,” he added.
The American president also mentioned that the United States will sign an agreement with Ukraine on rare earth elements and other minerals, which is “a tremendous deal for Ukraine as well.”
“We will work there. We will be ‘on the ground.’. And you know, in this way, it’s automatic security, because nobody will touch our people when we are there. So we will be there in that way,” Trump explained.
In his opinion, Europe “will be watching these events very closely.”
“I know that the United Kingdom has said and France has said that they… have volunteered to put so-called peacekeepers on the ground (in Ukraine—Ed.), and I think that’s a good thing,” Trump summarized.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a visit by his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on February 28 to sign a subsoil agreement.
Zelenskyy said that in Washington, he wanted to discuss a framework agreement on minerals and security guarantees from the United States with Donald Trump.
