The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that Kyiv has evidence of Russia’s intentions to strike three nuclear power plants in Ukraine on the eve of winter.
Zelensky said this at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Voice of America reports.
Russia is preparing attacks on nuclear power plants – Zelenskyy
“We’re now entering the third winter of this war. Russia is again trying to destroy our energy sector. This time they are more cynical—they want to attack our three nuclear power plants. We have this information and evidence. If Russia is ready to go this far, it means that nothing you value matters to Moscow.”
The Ukrainian President also said that “the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has violated a large number of norms and rules, and he will not stop alone.”
“Moscow is violating the UN Charter. It can only be forced to peace,” Zelenskyy said.
“Russia is deceiving and manipulating, as it struggles to explain the discovery of drone remnants in Moldova and Romania, its targeting of civilian courts in other nations, and its involvement in Belarus’ war. The strikes on schools, hospitals, and bakeries are beyond explanation. Russia has turned Iran and the DPRK into accomplices. It is impossible to justify its actions; they constitute international crimes. This war cannot be calmed down by talking—only by action.”
Zelenskyy invited China and Brazil to the second Peace Summit
The Ukrainian President appealed to China, Brazil and the nations of the global south to help ‘force Russia into peace’. He underscored that Ukraine needs ‘a real, just and lasting peace’.
“We invite China. We invite Brazil. I have already invited India. We are collaborating with countries in Africa, as well as those in Latin America, the Middle East, Central Asia, Europe, the Pacific, and North America. All are equally important for peace. All of them. Without exception. Just as the UN Charter should work without exceptions. This is the process that will lead us to peace. To a just peace. A real peace. A peace that will last. We all already know how to achieve it. We have a formula for peace. We have the UN Charter. And we have all the power we need to make it happen. All we need is determination.”
On September 23, Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke at the UN Future Summit and called for global unity to overcome the destructive power of Russia and its allies.
Earlier in the day, US President Joe Biden in his speech called for reform of the UN Security Council and continued support for Ukraine. This speech was Biden’s last as US president.
