Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has announced an agreement with two non-factional MPs who were previously expelled from the Voice (Hlas) coalition party, which could have led to the government losing its majority in parliament. He announced this in his post on Facebook.
Fico announced that he signed an agreement with non-factional MPs Samuel Migal and Radomir Šalitroš, who were expelled from the Voice party in January.
The agreement “creates conditions for ensuring a stable majority of the ruling coalition in the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic,” he added, noting that details would be made known “in the coming hours and days.”
In January, Fico’s coalition was on the verge of collapse after three members of the far-right Slovak National Party left it and four members of the Voice opposed the government.
However, in late February, the Slovak National Party, the Voice, and Fico’s Smer party agreed on a government reshuffle to preserve the coalition, which guaranteed it a minimum majority.
Meanwhile, protests against the government of Smer’s leader continue in Slovakia because of its pro-Russian stance.
