Prior to that, polls predicted the highest results in the upcoming presidential election in Slovakia for the leader of the Voice coalition party, Parliament Speaker Peter Pellegrini.
Pellegrini and his Hlas party are coalition partners with the Smer party and Robert Fico, who is known for his pro-Russian statements.
On January 18, about 26,000 people gathered in Bratislava for the fifth round of protests against Robert Fico’s government, which took place in over twenty cities across the country.
Pellegrini’s victory in the election is beneficial for Fico, primarily because it will make it easier for him to govern the country.
