US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce emphasized China’s role in supporting Russian aggression in connection with the published evidence of Chinese citizens’ participation in the war against Ukraine. She said this at a press conference on April 8.
The State Department spokeswoman said that the United States had seen reports of the capture of two Chinese citizens who fought on the side of Russia in Ukraine and called them “disturbing.”
‘It’s disturbing with North Korea participating. It’s disturbing with the Chinese soldiers having been captured. We’re aware of those reports, that Ukraine captured two Chinese citizens fighting on behalf of Russia in Ukraine. China is a major enabler of Russia in the war in Ukraine,” US State Department spokesperson said.
“China is a major enabler of Russia in the war in Ukraine. China provides nearly 80 per cent of the dual-use items Russia needs to sustain the war. Eighty per cent comes from China,” Tammy Bruce said.
Bruce also recalled the words of US President Donald Trump that “further cooperation between “these two nuclear powers”—referring to Russia and China—”will only deepen global instability and make the United States and other countries less safe, less secure, and less prosperous.”
On April 8, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the Ukrainian military in the Donetsk region had captured two Chinese citizens who fought in the Russian army.
Zelenskyy instructed the Foreign Ministry to immediately contact Beijing and find out how China was going to respond.
Last year, the previous US administration of Joe Biden accused China of providing direct military assistance to Russia.
