Russian troops caused an environmental catastrophe at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant – Energoatom

According to Energoatom, the criminal acts of the Russian invading troops at the Zaporizhzhya NPP result in an environmental catastrophe because they destroy a significant environmental component of the facility. It was stated by the Energoatom on their Telegram account.

The ZNPP cooling pond’s water temperature dropped to roughly +13 degrees as a result of the power units of the plant being shut down, which prevented warm water from entering the facility.

“Fish in the pond died in great numbers as a result. Warm-water tilapia and Asian catfish, which were introduced about 25 years ago to promote environmental cleanliness, are the two fish species that are currently stocked there. By eliminating green algae and preserving the purity of the cooling tubes of the turbine condenser, the fish serve a hygienic purpose.

“The fish multiplied in a suitable environment where the wintertime temperature never fell below +18 degrees. Consequently, if the cooling pond’s water temperature does not increase soon, a thousand tons of dead fish will wash up on the coast”, the corporation said

“Russia is a terrorist state that causes destruction and leaves a burnt land!”, Energoatom emphasized.

Previously, Petro Kotin, president of Energoatom, said that Russian invading troops are trying to seize control over the technical operations of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. These attempts threaten a global disaster for the entire world.
